The gateway file
SCI/sparse/gateway/sparse_gateway.xml 
in which mtlb_sparse() was declared up to Scilab 5.5.2 no longer exists.

Other primitives of this module have been rewritten in C++ (there were in C and Fortran), but not mtlb_sparse().

mtlb_sparse() is linked to the Matlab sparse type()==7.
Is this abandoned? => to be asked on devs@
