prettyprint("Hello World") generates the string $Hello World$ and in
math mode in LaTeX white spaces are ignored.

prettyprint is used to convert Scilab's variables into LaTeX, TeX and
MathML (help prettyprint)

You can use LaTeX expression directly in xstring :

--> xstring(0,0,"$\mbox{Hello World}$");

since in a mbox you're in text mode.

You can create a function to enclose your string with '$\mbox{' and '}$'
