Problem with javasci

I've been using the java-scilab interface for a while and evrything went
fine. However, I have recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 64 bits in two
computers and both fail to properly use javasci.
Even with the examples provided with scilab, attemping to create a
SciDoubleArray object results in an error message:
Stacksize: wrong type argument *expecting* a *real matrix
This happens both with scilab 4.1.2 compiled from source and with 5.1
installed through APT.
Anyone can help?
Thanks,
Alberto
