Scilab on OS X Snow leopard

Hi,

I have been trying to run Scilab-5.2 on a Macbook with OS X 10.6.3.
When I launched it, the icon showed up in the Dock and bounced for a while.
Then it stopped and nothing happened afterwards.
I had to force quit to remove it fro the Dock.
My student has a Macbook Pro with the same OS, and somehow Scilab runs on hers?
Could anyone help me to figure out what I am missing here?
