Upgrade to Scilab 5.2.2 in Ubuntu Lucid

Hi,
  Currently I have Scilab 5.2.1 in Ubuntu Lucid and no upgrades are available in 
Synaptic.   

1.  Is there a way to a clean upgrade to Scilab 5.2.2 without a fresh install 
using a third party repository?  
2.  If I do a manual install by downloading the tarballs from the scilab 
website, will my older version be wiped out ?
