Scilab quit unexpectedly

Once again, after half a year, I get the message
Scilab quit unexpectedly
when attempting to start SciLab.

Then, the recommendation was to
rearrange the Java versions on my
Mac OS X 10.6 with 
"Drag to change the preferred order"
in the Java Preferences window.

Now, with Mac OS X 10.6.8 and a
recent Java update, it does not work any more?

What can I do to get SciLab started?
