[Scilab-users] Question about the infamous dot

In one of the exercises that came with the scilab documentation there is a question that says:
Why does:
1./[2 3 4]
give the strange result
0.0689
0.1034
0.1379

Instead of

0.5
0.333
0.25

I can't seem to come up with an answer.
