Hi,

can you try :
ls -al /usr/share/scilab/contrib
In my case, I had sivp as a link to a folder, not as a folder itself, so 
rm -rf would have deleted the folder and not the link.
also,
ls -al ~/.Scilab/scilab-5.3.3

Another thing : --purge is used when deleting a library, not when 
installing it.
