[Scilab-users] How to interpret date strings?

Hi all,

How do you convert date strings into the serial date number? For
example, a date string like:
Tue Jan 15 13:17:09.914 2013

Especially, is there an easy way to convert month names to numbers? Like
"Jan" to 1, etc.
