I tried converted a small part of Modnum toolbox ver. 4.3b, original
source code for Scicos (/modnum_43b/interf/scicos in distribution). 

C-Source code requires only minor modifications, principal changes are
required in Scilab/Xcos interface - modification of the configuration
dialogs and icons (*.svg), compilation is using 'ilib_for_link' macro.

If you need a place to manage this toolbox you can use the
forge.scilab.org website [1]. An atoms package (install-able inside any
Scilab) can also be generated on [2].

Trying to lauch the binary gives :

I'm under Microsoft Windows XP Pro 64 bits
(5.2.3790 Service Pack 2 Nu 3790)
and I also couldn't start the 64 bits version of 5.5.0-beta

Running the 32 bits version is OK

We're trying to use a function from the optimization pack "leastsq" - it 
works very well if called from a script directly in scilab, however, 
we'd like to use it via the Javasci2 interface and call it from java. 
The problem we run into is the following:

A previous error has been detected while loading libscioptimization.so: 
/opt/scilab/lib/scilab/libscioptimization.so: undefined symbol: pvApiCtx

org.scilab.modules.javasci.JavasciException$ScilabErrorException: A 
Scilab error occurred: Impossible to load libscioptimization.so library: 
(null)
Code: 999

I use scilab 5.4.1 and I tested it on Centos 6.4 and Ubuntu 13.04 (it 
bahaves identically). The native lib path definitely contains the 
directory in which the libscioptimization.so.0 resides and simpler 
functions and scripts work over javasci2 like a charm.

Any help would be very appreciated,

I have made a 3d plot of some colors in the RGB color space. 
Currently the marks are all the same color. I would like 
each mark to be the color it represents in the space. So, a 
mark in the red corner of the plot should be red, etc...

Dear All,

I am new to Scilab and I'm wondering if anyone can help me solve the
following minimization problem in linear programming using Scilab:

1. Apply Karmarkar's algorithm to solve
Minimize -
x1 - 2x2 + 4x5subject to
x2 - x3 = 0
2
x1 - 2x2 + 4x3 - 4x5 = 0x
1 + 2x2 + x4 - 4x5 = 0x
1 + x2 + x3 + x4 + x5 = 1x
1, x2, x3, x4, x5 >= 0

2. Apply the primal affne scaling algorithm to solve
Minimize -
2x1 + x2subject to
x1 - x2 + x3 = 15x
2 + x4 = 15x
1, x2, x3, x4 >= 0
Hint: The optimal solution is
x* = [30 15 0 0]T with optimal value -45.

Adding few more features to http://cloud.scilab.in, we have come up
with a search utility on our Examples database.

If you are new to Scilab and are looking for an example usage of a
command say "contour":

1. Go to http://scilab.in/tbc_solr_search
2. Type "contour" in the search box. a list of examples using
"contour" would show up
3. Click on a relevant example, say: http://cloud.scilab.in/index.php?eid=3283
4. Execute!

You can try out "plot2d", "nyquist" etc  and run the relevant set of
examples, LIVE from the browser.

Alternatively you can run your own examples by copy-pasting into the
input window here: http://cloud.scilab.in

If you have any feedback/comments, please use the feedback form given
on http://cloud.scilab.in.

Hello Jennifer,

Are you certain that our problems are worrectly written?

For intstance, why is there a "2" alone in a line of the first problem ? 
And why do your right-hand side elements all have "x" ("0x", "1x", "15x")?

I cannot rewrite them but I can tell you that yes, karmarkar allows to 
solve such problems.
Just have a look at its help page : 
http://help.scilab.org/docs/5.4.1/fr_FR/karmarkar.html

Your first problem should look something like this:
c = [1 -2 0 0 4]'; // Main problem
Aeq = [1 0 -1 0 0 ; ? ? ? ? ? ; 1 -2 4  0 -4 ; ? 2 0 1 -4 ; ? 1 1 1 1]; 
// Equations
beq = [0 ? 0 0 1]; // Right-hand side

[xopt, fopt, exitflag, iter, yopt] = karmarkar(Aeq, beq, c)

If the solution is not all positive (inequality constraint), add an 
inequality matrix A, like in the help page.

Hi all,

small problem with Xcos palette export (Scilab 5.5.0, Ubuntu 12.04):

If I want to create a new palette with Xcos block with graphic icon in
'builder.sce'

pal=xcosPal("MyPalette");
pal=xcosPalAddBlock(pal, MyInterface("define"), [], mypath
+"../macros/icons/myIcon.svg");

then macro 'xcosPalAddBlock' create/generate GIF icon in TEMP directory.

If I then export palette to file 

xcosPalExport(pal, mypath + '/MyPalette.pal');

in file 'MyPalette.pal' path to GIF icon indicates to TEMP directory
(!!!) 
And when I load palette with a.e. XcosMyModule.start (after new start
etc.) with macro

xcosPalAdd(mypath + '/MyPalette.pal');

icons no longer exists (old TEMP was meantime deleted) and I get block
in Palette browser without icons ... :-(

I think that the GIF icon would be created in the same directory as
original (a.e *.svg, *.jpg ....) image(s) and path in exported palette
(*.pal) should point to this directory.

Temporary problem solution - not ideal, but works:

-> palette can be created at startup in *.start file, without export,
Palette browser load icons from TEMP directory

Hello Peter,

In my view, the palette should be created on toolbox loading (eg. on
the .start file) because, as you highlight, path may vary between
built-time and load-time. Furthermore, palette creation does not require
many computation time and perform only runtime consistency checks.

As a reference, please take a look at the xcos_toolbox_skeleton on the
SCI/contrib directory.

my goal is to solve numerically an ODE which contains a time-dependent parameter using 'ode'. I get a confusing result depending on whether the signal (it's called h) is on for 10 or 20 seconds. The two results are attached. Regardless of the model and the code, there should be a response in the variable w as soon as h switches from 0 to 1. I can provide any other information as needed. 

Should I use bugzilla to report this? I am not doing this very often, so I need some instruction how to proceed.

Hello Peter,

I think that your code might be useful. You might get some 
discontinuities when ode solver might get confused, or you have chosen 
the wrong solver.

thank you for confirmation process creating palette during load-time.

(I tried procedure described in the "Xcos Hybrid dynamic systems modeler
and simulator" from 16. june 2010, but template from xcos toolbox
skeleton is probably fresher :-) )

Take care that the ode  requires the function being at least  continuous 
and differentiable
If your input signal has singularities (points where it nos 
differentiable) you must stop the integration at this point and restart 
it just after taking the last state value as the intial point for the 
second run.

Serge,

I suggest that an optional argument for ode would be a set of dates 
where the function is singular, so ode manages this by itself. What do 
you think?

Graphic window number 0 is opened. i dont want to open this window. How this
can be done?

Can we change the name of scilab plot window?

Why do you plot if not to get a plot?
Maybe you want yourplot to be written in a file directly? In this case 
use driver and xinit/xend

sorry for spam, I tried used oridinal xcos_toolbox_skeleton template 
(ver. 5.4.0-1-src, scilab 5.5.0, ubuntu 12.04), but I get some problems,
probably I made some mistakes:

1. building is without problems (see below)

2. loading (xcos_toolbox_skeleton.start executed from SciNotes - is this
correct ?) generate error message

I checked  "exec ('builder.sce'); exec ('loader.sce')" using
scilab-5.5.0-beta1 with xcos_toolbox_skeleton from Scilab 5.5.0-beta1
and Scilab 5.4.1 and everything seems to be fine.

Can you track the 'permanent variable' issue ? what's the variable ? did
you define it ?

Hello Cl?ment,

I found that this variable (xcos_skeletonlib) is defined in XCPL toolbox
(ScicosPowerLab,  XCPL.start) that I install via Atom.

After uninstalling XCLP everything works fine. I think the return
variable of each macro *.start should have its own name (to prevent
similar conflicts) ...

How can I convert a matrix of characters into integers when the
separator has different number of spaces ?

 

The spaces come probably  from a printf format such as :
printf("%10d\n",var)

 

I 'm currently using csvTextScan and I've some troubles/errors  with
csvRead ...

 

Example :

! 300006     12799     24678     17504     21558    212801     24680
17508     21560 !

 

NB:

-          I read first an ascii file

-          I removed some specific lines directly in the matrix

-          Then I'm trying to convert the matrix of characters into a
matrix of intergers

Dear Paul,

How about manually editing your file to standardize the spacing between 
the numbers?

For instance, using your editor's "Find and Replace" tool to replace two 
spaces "  " with one space " " until you get only one space between each 
number?

Yes, you're right ...  it can be done easily under vi for example ...  but it remains a trick !

 

Is it out of Scilab scope to directly manage the number of spaces (as separator) ?

Dear Paul,

How about manually editing your file to standardize the spacing between the numbers?

For instance, using your editor's "Find and Replace" tool to replace two spaces "  " with one space " " until you get only one space between each number?

I would read the string matrix, trying to obtain a 1x1 string matrix (or 
at least a 1 column string matri, eg with csvRead)

then use *regexp *to replace several spaces by only one, i guess you 
have to replace " *" by "*" (without the quotes: replace [SPACE][STAR] 
by [SPACE])

then split the matrix where the single spaces are separtors with 
*csvTextScan*

It works well with one line, but I do not figure out how to use it with a matrix without using a loop ?????

I absolutely want to avoid a loop in order to convert fast my ascii file into a matrix of integer ... I might be possible to use vectorization ....

 

For example, my matrix has more than a 100 000 lines .....

Suppose lines is a column vector of strings, each element being a meaningful line of your input file. Try

m = [];

[nl,nc] = lines;

for i = 1:nl

  tks = tokens(lines(i));

  intValues = (eval(tks))'; // transpose in order to get a row

  m = [m;intValues];

end

-          I know that there's only one occurrence ... thus when it has
been found, not necessary to continue

Hi Paul,

You may have a look at the function find() which is a serialized function and then you may test the size of the result which will tell you if there's a match and where.
At first sight you'll have to test sequentially with the 4 different permutations (only 4 iterations).

I'm asking here an advice from the community in order to find a (fast and clean) solution ; I've the following issue :

-          I've a (n x 4) matrix where n may be huge (several hundred thousand of lines is common )

-          I need to find and to remove the line wich has the same numbers (but different in order)

-          I know that there's only one occurrence ... thus when it has been found, not necessary to continue

Example :

A = [
X  X  X      X
X  X  X      X
1 9 1000 994423
X  X  X      X
X  X  X      X
X  X  X      X
1000 994423 1 9  ... or 994423 1 9 1000 ... or 9 1000 994423 ... only 3 possible permutations

Any suggestion that avoids the use of (intensive ugly) loops ?

-           .... Is it possible to have a single Boolean with all the cells met the requirement (T) and when it's not the case (F) ?

You can use vectorfind() three times to get the line number.

Do you know the numbers you're looking for at the beginning,
or do you look for twin rows with a blind search?

In the second case, I'm afraid you'll have to sort the matrix...

Or you might generate a hashcode for every row, that is not sensitive
to the order of the elements.

You spend time computing this hashcode,
but it makes the search faster because you only have to scan one value,
and then discriminate the false results (collisions).

A very simple, and probably not so efficient, solution would be to 
compute the sum of every line.

You should investigate which solution is "less worse".

im using scilab 5.4.1 and I tried to display more than four plots in one
Xcos scope. The first four plots are displayed, all further plots remains
emty. Could it be that the numer of plots in a Xcos scope is limited, or is
there a bug.

Hi,

Did you try to run your links through a MUX block?

The Xcos -> Control Systems -> Inverted Pendulum demo shows more than 4 
plots in one graphic window.

Hi,

I have a data matrix  M (64x128) which I plot in 3-D using mesh(x,y,M). 
this produces a nice plot.
However, when I export this plot as an .eps file, I notice two problems:
         -the process is very long (several minutes)
         -the resulting file is large (3.1 Mo)
If I choose export to .pdf,  the transfer to disk is somewhat faster and 
the resulting file half as large.
Is this behaviour normal or is there a way to obtain a smaller file (in 
eps or pdf format) in a shorter time ?

Is it possible, using mesh, to plot a subset of the data, as is done 
with plot3d using ebox ?

There is an annoying discrepancy between mesh and contour2d: if 
mesh(x,y,M) works,
then I must write contour2d(y,x,M) to obtain a contour plot, ie lines 
and columns are switched.

I use win XP, SP3 and Scilab 5.4.1

I already read in the forum that there is bugs in 5.4.0 with the mode of
exec.
I am using 5.4.1 but I still have a problem.

There is 2 lines from my code

and this is what I get

the second disp isn't showed.

After some tests  with Scilab 5.4.1 and 5.5.0-b1 on win7, i confirm this 
bug:
It occurs only when the Line Endings is set to Mac Classic (CR)
and it consists in executing only the first line of the script run.

So, you may try with Linux or Windows Line Endings, even if you work on 
a Mac.

That was a bug in Scilab build process under Ubuntu. The linker packaged
in Ubuntu is enabling the --as-needed option as default.
For some reasons, libscilab.so and libscilab-cli.so did not have this
option set.
I fixed that in commit c4fa8db4c4e207ee89a0b5cd8cd5b66b788dee39
It should now work in the current nightly builds.

I forgive to tell that I am using a Mac under Mountain Lion
And a friend of mine is using a mac under Lion and it Scilab is working
perfectly!

I don't what the difference because we are using the same version Scilab
5.4.1

Dear All

First of all thanks for all the advices I had ; the use of ?members? works
fine and fast in a general case, but not completely applicable in the study



Due to the big size of my matrix (more than 400 000 rows with 4 columns ...
even greater than a million of rows) , I?ve a stacksize issue;  I tried 2
different ways in order to look for duplicates in the matrix:

1-      Each line is compared to the global matrix ? see example 1

2-      The matrix is splitted into blocks of 1000 rows (maximum number of
lines without stacksize issue) ? see example 2 
 better/faster solution from
the previous one 


 

Nevertheless I haven?t seen any way to avoid the use of (ugly) loops that
drastically slow down the numerical resolution  
. 


 Can vectorization be used instead of loops in the current study ?

Once again, any additional advices will be greatly appreciated from the
community

I think the example hereafter is quite interesting since it shows the speed
quickly increase . but it remains too long for my application L

 

Thus an additional question : is the only way is to use parallelization
(I've 8 cores on my working station) ? what about Scilab today on that
specific issue ?

I tried the code given in example for the function "driver", on a PC with Windows XP and Scilab 5.5.0: the report has a warning message given below.

with "xend" function.

Now, I issue the "driver" command twice:

I am using Scilab 5.5.0-b1 on win_x64. This error does not occur with 
it. The PS file is well generated (but the figure is at the bottom of 
the page).

I have the newest Xcode 5.0.1 for Mac OS X Mavericks.

For example, I had problem to run Xcos->Electrical system-> RLC circuit.

Could you please test the Xcos -> Modelica, Xcos -> Electrical Systems 
and Xcos -> Control Systems demos and tell us which ones work and which 
ones don't?

Following the release of Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks operating system and 
until the release of Scilab 5.5.0 final version, Scilab users working 
under Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks can use:

  * Scilab 5.4.1 (a warning message is displayed indicating that this
    version is not supported but Scilab starts and is functional).
    Download is available at http://www.scilab.org/download/5.4. 1
  * Nighlty Buildsversions of Scilab. Download available at
    http://www.scilab.org/development/nightly_builds/master

Scilab 5.5.0 beta 1 does not work under this operating system.

These versions are provisionally recommended pending the release of 
Scilab 5.5.0 final version because all features could not have been 
tested under this environment.

Hello,

I have written the program attached below in order to plot and export a

Hi Paul,

Examples don't work: Xcos->Modelica->(all examples) & Xcos->Electrical Systems->(all examples), and the
error messages are the same which I reported before.

Examples work: Xcos->Control Systems->(all examples)

I would like to tell you that when I click to Scilab 5.4.1, appears the message: "This version of Scilab will probably fail on
this system (10.9): Scilab requires 10.6.5 (Snow Leopard) or newer system". And then when I click to "Try anyway", appears
new icon called "Scilab-bin".

/Applications/scilab-5.4.1.app/Contents/MacOS/share/scilab/modules/dynamic_link/src/scripts/config.log

2) Scilab create new Makefile, and put the gfortran there.

3) My fortran is in /usr/local/gfortran/bin/gfortran

Hello,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

The Inverted Pendulum demo shows many signals in one diagram, but I want to
display only one signal per diagram, but more than four digrams in one
figure. I am using no MUX because there is an input for each signal. The
problem is that only the first four signals are displayed.

So you want an ouput that looks like a subplot

If it is the case, did you try using a CMSCOPE 
<http://help.scilab.org/docs/5.4.1/fr_FR/CMSCOPE.html> block?

If this doesn't work, could you please provide us with your diagram?

Yes, it should look like a subplot. I am using a CMSCOPE. The image  shows
the Scope with no signal in the fifth subplot.

i have a question about using the datatips in Scilab's Xcos. I tried to simulate a PID-Controller and i want to use some datatips. My Problem is, that i need more decimal places for the Y-Axis. The problem is only if the datatip is over "1". It would be most helpful if there is a possibility to show the position of de datatip in a way like this for example: "Y: 1.05" or "Y: 1.005"? it only shows "Y: 1.1" (not very)
