Never been a Matlaber.

Personally, I use clear() during the development of my scripts:
I sometimes forget to initiallise some variables,
and if it gets the value from a past execution,
then it prevents me from seeing that the variable does not exist
in a given case.

After that, I don't to remove it in my final version...
Probably I should.

Maybe there's a beter way do spot such problems.
