Probably a lack of vocabulary on my side, I don't know what a "M bin" is, I don't use this in my job. The backslash performs a linear regression (as long as MI is not square). What do you mean by "simple regression" ? Additionally, you use a W and don't explain what it is. >From your example, it is not clear which coefficients you try to refine (the d's, the e's ?) Tries have been in decline since the start of the Six Nations in 2000 - 75 overall in each of the first three seasons, just 37 in 2013. This year has delivered 41 prior to the final weekend. Six of those tries have come from Italy, showcasing their attacking evolution. With the 2015 World Cup looming large, coach Jacques Brunel has given youth its head and been rewarded. I define them in the diagram context (in Xcos editor) in order to allow compilation and I modify them to the desired values using %scicos_context.C=C (for instance) before running the simulation. This is surprising because even when I compile a working diagram it does not produce %cpr . I have also been solving simultaneous linear equations of the form A * x = b. My first thought was to use the method: x = A \ b and it seemed to me that if Tunji's equations are well-behaved then this may be the easiest method, rather than using 'linsolve'. In my case I'm trying to solve electrical circuit equations which are sparse and include complex values. I used x = A \ b to begin with but for some component values I get messages like: Warning : matrix is close to singular or badly scaled. rcond = 1.0388D-08 computing least squares solution. (see lsq). The method goes to completion but the results are obviously wrong. If I use 'linsolve' instead, it goes to completion without producing any warnings or errors but the results are wrong. For me, 'umfpack' is the best method by far and works very well. This is a situation which has occurred several times before. SciLab is a very powerful piece of software and as a result there may (apparently) be several methods of doing the same thing but there are rarely explanations of how each method works or why you would use one method rather than another. (2) Scipad creates system instability that there was not present with SciNotes: when leaving my interactive Scilab programs and returning to the Scilab Console, the prompt is not accessible (something seems to be flashing at bottom). Scilab Console > Control > Abort or Interrupt does not return the prompt (neither does CTRL+C). I can exit Scipad but the Scilab Console prompt is still not available. I have to kill Scilab (WScilex.exe) on Win 7 Task Manager. I would like to know if other users have faced similar problems? Finally: (3) Could you please highlight some of the key advantages of using Scipad instead of SciNotes? PS: It would be useful to have in Scipad a navigation panel allowing a quicker switch between each of the Scilab "project" scripts opened. The he.children(1).data assignment is not accepted, with error message "function not defined for given arguments". Is there a way to generalize the 2D code ? Thanks in advance for your time and help. In case the original question didn't get answered, or the problem has been changed, the problem arises in getting the eigenfunctions (natural mode shapes) for a cantilevered, built in vibrating uniform rod (or beam). After the first two the rest come very close to (2*n+1)pi/2 because cosh(x) gets so big that only when cos(x) is virtually zero does the solution appear.
