[Scilab-users] won't run on OSX

hi guys

i just downloaded and installed scilab-5.5.0-x86_64.dmg on my mac 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running OSX 10.6.8

it won't run. hangs on load ... icon changed from bird to default java icon, "application not responding" etc

tried deleting and re-installing, tried re booting etc

any thoughts ?
