I found a simple and reproducible way to trigger the bug:

1) Start scilab
2) With the focus on the console, keep "enter" key pressed until the new lines stop appearing.
3) Profit: scilab/scinote will no longer react to key events.

I triggered the bug on scilab:

- 5.5.0, Linux 64bits,
- 5.5.1, Linux 64bits,
- YaSp-1429714170 Linux 64bits.

I could not trigger this bug with scilab 5.5.0 under Win7 64 bits or using the '-nw' on linux.
Is it X11-related?
