Convert Matlab to Scilab m2sci

Hi,
The ideas for development page in Scilab Wiki gave me the idea.So my main
idea would be to implement a converter from matlab files to scilab files.
I am doing a bit of research on it.Till now I have found the following
things to do:
1. Develop a parser.
2. Design a mapper to map matlab functions to scilab functions.

I need advice so that I can develop my idea further.
Moreover I would also like to apply for this project in GSoC 2010.Is there
any more thing that I should do?
Desperately waiting for advices.
