I have exactly the same problems on my iMac. It must have to do something with
Java, since I can start scilab with the -nogui option. I get the same message
about using 1.6.0 since 1.5.0 could not be found. However, this can be excluded
as a reason, since my MacBook which has the same OS-version is able to run
scilab with the gui enabled. I've compared the scilab scripts and run them with
SCI_VERBOSE on both machines. They produce the very same output, but on the iMac
the process hangs (no reply) whereas on the MacBook it runs fine.

A solution is essential for me since I use Scilab for teaching purposes and if
the next update kills Scilab on my MacBook I will be upset :-(
