Well, I've done it myself.
This is what happened.

On my MacBook, Scilab 5.2.2 initially didn't want to start but became functional after making a symlink (1.5 --> 1.5.0) that was missing initially.
The Java update wiped obsolete Java VM 1.4.2 and 1.5.0, which I had installed using Pacifist for other applications, and replaced the symlink 1.5 --> 1.5.0 with a symlink 1.5 --> CurrentJDK
I tried to launch Scilab at this point, and it run flawlessly.
Then I reinstalled Java SE 1.5.0, which is required to run another java application (the symlink 1.5-->CurrenJDK stays).
Scilab launched without a problem.

I guess my problem was just simply the lack of the symlink 1.5-->CurrentJDK.
