I just posted my (long!) report on [scilab-Users]
before seeing your request.  Apologies!  I'll subscribe
on [dev] and carry on there.

However, I just got ./configure to complete after installing "matio" and
"matio-devel" packages.

So my previous post appears to cover ALL the problems I've had with
./configure.

Now it's on to compiling.
