Hello Jean Louis,

It seems that you are using a 32bit os, right?
Are you sure you downloaded the 32bit version of scilab ( https://www.scilab.org/download/5.5.2/scilab-5.5.2.bin.linux-i686.tar.gz ), not the 64bit version?
